Jane Baillie Jane appears on the 1851 and 1861 census, but is missing from the 1871 census. This means she must have died after 1866, possibly on the birth of Agnes. Her religion is listed as Free Church, but others in the family appear in Bethany United on Russell Road, Ottawa.

The spelling of her name this way comes from the marriage registration of her daughter Mary Ann to John Langstaff, the marriage for her daughter Sophie to William John Torrance, Feb. 15, 1879 in Gloucester, has the spelling Baillie.

Sophie claims on the 1891 census that her Mother was born in Scotland, and her father in England.

C. R. Langstaff 1895

C. R. Langstaff was one of the Emo pioneers. He had been a policeman in Ottawa. On his way west, he stopped off at Emo to visit two old friends, W. J. Holmes, who had a store at Big Fork and Ed Boucher, who had established a store south of Stratton. These friends persuaded him to bring his family to Emo and in 1895 he returned to Emo and built a log building on the bank of the Rainy River. The store was on the one level and their living quarters on the other.

As there was no railway built yet everything, people and goods, were transported by boat from Kenora. The boats came into a dock just below the Langstaff home and store. Many people who came to Emo in those days found kind hospitality at the Langstaff home before continuing to their homesteads at a distance. in 1895 at Resident of, , Rainy River District, .5
